What are the Types of Dentures?

Temporary Dentures
Temporary dentures are used as a short-term solution while you are undergoing other treatments like dental implants or dental bridges. These are a great option if you've lost a tooth due to an accident or injury and need a natural-looking smile while waiting for permanent replacements. Temporary dentures are secured in place with a metal wire that works like a retainer and can be taken in and out as needed.
This option ensures that you don’t have to go without a tooth while your permanent solution is being prepared. Keep in mind that temporary dentures are only meant to be worn for a few months and will need to be replaced with more permanent options once your mouth has healed and the necessary treatments have been completed.
Partial Dentures
If only a few of your teeth are missing, partial dentures are a great solution to fill in the gaps. Unlike a full set of dentures, partials use a plastic base that mimics the color of your gums, and are often reinforced with a metal framework for added stability.
Partial dentures are ideal for patients who still have some natural teeth remaining, and they can be easily removed for cleaning. They are a less invasive alternative to more permanent options like dental bridges, providing an affordable solution to replace missing teeth. If you have remaining natural teeth, partial dentures are typically necessary as they help prevent the shifting of remaining teeth.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are used to replace all of the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. These are the types of dentures you may see in cartoons or movies, but thanks to modern technology, they are now more comfortable, durable, and natural-looking than ever before.
If you have lost all of your teeth, complete dentures are the most effective solution. After teeth removal, it typically takes eight to 12 weeks for your gums to heal and settle. Once your gums have healed, we will take impressions of your gums to create a custom set of dentures that will fit securely and comfortably. In some cases, patients may opt for immediate dentures, which can be placed immediately after tooth extraction. However, they may require adjustments later on as the gums and bone settle.
